Police probe on fight involving SMK Kolombong students
Published on: Sunday, August 13, 2017

Kota Kinabalu: Police are investigating the fight that broke out between a group of SMK Kolombong students at a playground in Taman Bayumas. A video clip of the incident went viral over Facebook on Friday.

The video also came with a message urging those with information to contact a given number to help catch the culprits and put a stop to violence and bullying.

City Police Chief ACP M. Chandra on Saturday said a police report was lodged by the school's discipline teacher at about 9.45pm the same day the video went viral.

The teacher claimed that the fight happened at about 1pm on Aug 9 at a field in Taman Bayumas and involved two groups of students from the same school. It initially involved only two students before their friends joined in.

Apparently, there was another fight the day earlier at the same venue but was not circulated on social media.

It was believed to have been triggered by each trying to show their strength.

The case is being probed under Section 147 of the Penal Code for rioting which carries a jail term of up to two years, fine or both if convicted.

State Education Director Datuk Maimunah Suhaibul told Daily Express that the fight was not a case of bullying and no physical injury was reported.

According to Maimunah, the parents of the students concerned had also been contacted. - Sherell Ann Jeffrey
