Cindy crowned Miss Sabah Tourism 2017

Kota Kinabalu: Cindy Foo was crowned Miss Sabah Tourism 2017 after beating eight other finalists on Friday.

The 27-year-old freelance model walked away with a crown, sash, RM3,000 cash and sponsored goodies.

"This is the biggest title I have won so far. Previously I had won Sabah Model of the Year 2012 as well as Miss Air for Miss Sabah Earth 2013," she said after the crowning ceremony.

She said she learnt a lot through the Miss Sabah Tourism pageant as the organiser had organised various activities for the participants, such as a visit to old folks' home and public speaking as well as catwalk classes.

"We gained a lot of exposure through the pageant…we are also involved in producing short videos promoting tourism in the State.

"I will use my title to boost my career and future projects as I am also active in acting for local telemovies, apart from promoting Sabah tourism."

First and second runner-up titles were held by Claudieyamax Aloysius and Eleanor Ng, respectively.

Alexsa brought home a crown and RM2,000, while Nikki a crown and RM1,000.

Both also received vouchers and goodies from sponsors.

All top three winners of the Miss Sabah Tourism 2017 will represent the State in the national-level competition.

The main prizes were presented by Malaysian supermodel Amber Chia and Miss Sabah Tourism 2016 Kimberly Vung.

Meanwhile, Miss Sabah Tourism 2017 State Director Weena Marcus said the pageant played a significant part in attracting a wide array of participants from various cultural backgrounds.

"This pageant is not only a platform to boost tourism and culture but also a stepping stone for our beautiful young and potential ladies to experience a life-changing journey," she said.

She believed that the pageant will go a long way in assisting the State to promote the tourism industry, especially with the finalists showcasing the best of what Sabah has to offer.

Also present were Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun and Sabah Tourism Board General Manager Gordon Yapp. - Ricardo Unto
