Sabah's war history must never be forgotten: CM

Sandakan: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman said the younger generation of Sabahans must be constantly aware of Sabah's war history.He said there is so much to learn from horrors of war particularly the Second World War 72 years ago in order to appreciate the peace and freedom they now enjoy.

"It is highly crucial that we, as well as our children, are reminded of this part of history to know what we have lost and the freedom that we gained in return," he said during the Sandakan Memorial Day 2017 at Sandakan Memorial Park, Tuesday. His speech was delivered by his deputy Datuk Seri Raymond Tan.

He said the annual memorial event is a time to pause and to reflect that there is nothing noble about wars.

He also reminded the great contributions from other countries, particularly Australia and Great Britain in the fight against the Japanese invasion.

"We also remember the local communities who took risks and lost their lives in helping the Allied Forces soldiers," he added.

Also present at the event were the Australian High Commissioner to Malaysia Rod Smith, British High Commissioner to Malaysia Vicki Treadell, Sabah Tourism Board Chairman Datuk Johniston Bangkuai, Tourism, Culture and Environment Assistant Minister Datuk Pang Nyuk Min, Karamunting Assemblyman Datuk Charles O Pang, Sandakan Municipal Council President Datuk James Wong and Sandakan ATM Veteran Association and the Veteran's Reminiscence.

Earlier, Rod and Vicki acknowledged the event by remembering the fallen heroes as well as the good relationship among the countries.
