Kota Kinabalu: A 46-year-old Johorean was charged in the Sessions Court with cheating a local man of RM24,000.Abd Halim Yahya pleaded not guilty before Judge Azreena Aziz to cheating one Noorkhan Mulkianman Khan, 57, by deceiving the latter that he would help him to get a Honorary Member rank in Rela as a result Noorkhan banked in the money into Abd Halim's account.The alleged crime took place at 11.44am on Feb 14 this year at the Ambank Plaza Shell, here.

The offence under Section 420 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to 10 years and whipping and also liable to a fine, upon conviction.Azreena fixed Sept 13 for case management and Nov 1-2 to hear the case.
Abd Halim was released on a bail of RM10,000 in two local sureties and ordered report to the nearest police station once a month as well as his passport, if any, to be impounded by the court.Deputy Public Prosecutor Husna Abdul Halim appeared for the prosecution while counsel Luke Ressa Balang defended Abd Halim.

In another court, a 38-year-old local man pleaded not guilty to robbing a woman.Mohamad Azwan Rawas made the plea before Sessions Court Judge Noorhafizah Mohd Salim after the charge was read to him.

He allegedly robbed the 33-year-old woman of her wallet at 1.20pm on Aug 9 at behind the Sugar Bun premises in Jalan Gaya, here.Mohamad was charged under Section 392 of the Penal Code which provides for a jail term of up to 14 years, and whipping, on conviction.No bail was offered Mohamad who was not represented.
