Illegal 4-D: Man fined RM4,000

Kota Kinabalu: A 33-year-old man was fined RM4,000 or three months' jail for having illegal 4D lottery paraphernalia.Ting Lee Soon pleaded guilty before Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie to committing the offence at 3.15pm on Nov 26, 2016 in a premises at Taman Jumbo in Petagas, here.

Insp. Suzie Kupit, prosecuting, told the court that Ting was detained by a police team in a raid following tip-off on illegal lottery business being operated at the place.

Police seized nine 4-D slips, a calculator, a printer, a handphone, a pen and RM689 cash from the premises.

Ting had committed an offence under Section 9(1) of the Common Gaming House Act, which provides for a fine of up to RM5,000 or up to six months' jail on conviction.

In another case, a local teenager, who admitted to stealing a motorcycle, was ordered to undergo a community service for 100 hours.

Stephanie made the order on Muhd Adam Shukry after going through his social report tendered by the welfare officer.

Adam pleaded guilty to stealing a Honda EX5 motorcycle belonging to one Mohd Sharil Laisam along with two accomplices at 3.30pm on July 14 at Taman Friendship, in Putatan.

The offence under Section 379A of the Penal Code carries a jail term of between a year and seven years and liability of a fine on conviction. – Jo Ann Mool
