Man pleads guilty to suicide attempt

Kota Kinabalu: A 54-year-old man was charged in the Magistrate's Court Wednesday with attempting to commit suicide.Chan Mow Ying allegedly committed the offence by slitting his throat at 11.45am on March 25, this year at the main road near Taman Juta, in Penampang.

He pleaded guilty to the charge under Section 309 of the Penal Code.

However, Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie adjourned to Aug 17 for fact and sentencing.

Chan faces a jail term of up to a year or a fine, or both, on conviction.

He was offered bail at RM500 in two sureties pending the date.

In another case, a 20-year-old man was jailed 12 months for damaging a car.

Azhar Aradani admitted to committing mischief by damaging the front passenger seat window of one Timothy Boriul's car at 11.30pm on Aug 1 at the car park next to the Jesselton Pearl Harbour restaurant at Waterfront, here.

The court heard that Azhar did the act as he was offended with the stare from Timothy and his friends while they were leaving the area.

Azhar was charged under Section 427 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of between a year and five years or fine, or both, on conviction.
