Kota Kinabalu: Nine soldiers sustained injuries when an army truck skidded and plunged into a 10-metre ravine in Kota Belud, Wednesday.It was learnt that the 6.40am mishap in the Paradise Camp occurred because of the truck's malfunctioning brake system. The soldiers, aged between 36 and 20, were rushed to hospital.

One of the soldiers is believed to have sustained serious injuries after fracturing his arm. However, this could not be immediately confirmed.
Seven others sustained slight injuries while one was said to have escaped unscathed. Seven firefighters rushed to the scene located some 15km from the Kota Belud Fire and Rescue Station, following a distress call through MERS 999 at 6.49am. - Sherell Ann Jeffrey
