Unregistered products: Two firms fined

Kota Kinabalu: Two local beauty supply and healthcare premises were fined a total of RM16,000 for having unregistered products.Sessions Court Judge Azreena Aziz handed the sentence to E-Noveal Trading Sdn Bhd and Borneo Islamic Media Snd Bhd after its respective representatives pleaded guilty to the offence on Thursday.E-Noveal Trading Sdn Bhd was ordered to pay a fine of RM10,000 for having 729 unregistered foot-patches at its premises in Karamunsing, here, at 11am on March 24.

The offence under the Regulations 7(1)(a) of the Cosmetics and Drug Control Regulations 1984 provides for a fine of up to RM25,000 or a jail term of up to three years, or both, on conviction.The court allowed the company to make three instalments and fixed Oct 2 to review the payment. Earlier, the representative asked for a lower fine to be imposed on the company as it was its first offence.However, the prosecuting officer of Pharmacy Department urged the court to hand down a deterrent sentence on the grounds that the unregistered products will risk the health of its users.

Meanwhile, Borneo Islamic Media Sdn Bhd was fined RM6,000 for having nine types of unregistered massage oil.Its representative told the court that he overlooked the fact that the products were not registered with the Health Ministry. Besides, he got the products from a local supplier.
