Illegal jailed for stealing four handphones

Kota Kinabalu: A Filipino illegal immigrant was jailed 18 months and fined RM2,000 or two months' jail for stealing handphones.Al Najil Otoh, 21, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Cindy Mc Juce Balitus to stealing two handphones each from one Aga Ali Usman and Mohd Raulnizam Rozine at 9pm on July 30 at the control room of Centre Point Sabah Complex.He committed the offence along with two accomplices still at large.

The court heard that Al Najil was identified by the two complainants during an identification parade conducted by police as the person who stole their handphones and gave them to his two accomplices.The offence, under Section 380 read with Section 34 of the Penal Code, carries a jail term of up to 10 years and liability of a fine on conviction. Al Najil, who was unrepresented, requested for leniency but prosecuting officer Insp. Albert Basiri pressed for an appropriate sentence and informed the court that Al Najil had been jailed four months by the Sessions Court earlier for illegal entry.Cindy ordered Al Najil to serve the sentence concurrently with his jail term imposed by the Sessions Court.In another case, two people were charged with having drugs.
