Filipina among four jailed for causing death

Kota Kinabalu: Four Philippine nationals, one of them a woman, were on Thursday jailed 30 months' jail each for causing the death of another.Sessions Court Judge Indra Ayub handed the sentence to Abraham Rahmon, 31, Nasir Omar, 32, Tannalin Montoh, 51, and Husna Mangkabung, 38, after they were found guilty of committing culpable homicide not amounting to murder of one Ali Talani between 11pm on March 23 and 2am on March 24, 2016 in front of a house in Kg Guruh-Guruh, in Sipitang.They were convicted under Section 304(a) of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to 30 years and liability of a fine, on conviction.ADVERTISEMENT Abraham, Nasir and Tannalin were ordered to serve sentence from March 24, 2016, while Husna, from March 26 in the same year.During mitigation, the Filipinos who were not represented asked for a light sentence as they regretted their offence and promised to not commit any crime.Abraham also told the court that they acted such because Ali had raped his wife.However, Deputy Public Prosecutor Mohd Khairuddin Idris urged the court to impose a heavy sentence on grounds that a person is dead because of their action.ADVERTISEMENT Khairuddin also submitted that they should not take law into their hands when they knew that the deceased raped Abraham's wife as they should bring him to the police instead of assaulting him to death.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.
