Zylane bags silver medal in free solo routine

National swimmer Zylane Lee Yhing Huey bagged the silver medal in the free solo routine of the synchronised swimming events in the Kuala Lumpur SEA Games at the National Aquatics Centre, KL Sports City here, Thursday.Zylane, 25, who was in a red/black outfit, opted for the Spanish version of 'Stone Cold' sung by Kevin Vasquez. The original in English was popularised by Demi Lovato.The Kuala Lumpur-born athlete notched 74.7000 points, 0.3000 behind the gold medal winner, Debbie Soh Li Fei from Singapore. Debbie's compatriot Miya Yong Hsing collected 73.0333 points for the bronze.

Her performance was a hit with the home crowd boosted by the presence of Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Datuk M. Saravanan and Malaysia's chef-de-mission Datuk Marina Chin."Before this when I have a solo event not during the SEA Games, my song and movement is more on sharpness, furious but this time it is a very emotional one. I try to take my routine to the next level."So this is a very emotional song and very hard to do and I took the challenge and this is the result. I hope you like it," she told reporters afterwards.

Admitting that she was a bit disappointed at not delivering the gold, she, however, said that she was satisfied with the high marks she obtained, which had met the target set.She will be pairing up with Gan Hua Wei in the duet technical routine on Friday. Synchronised swimming in this edition of the Games offers five gold medals overall.

"We are really happy to win the first gold medal for Singapore and we should also remember to thank the people supporting us as well as the association and family at home. "I feel like even though there was a bit of pressure, I tried to take it positively and used it to motivate myself instead of stressing myself out," she said. – Bernama
