Pakistani seeking MyKad denied bail
Lahad Datu: A Pakistani charged with providing false information to apply for a Mykad failed in his second bail application in the Magistrate's Court, Thursday.Sessions Court Judge Mohd Zaini Fishir, who sat as magistrate, rejected Mamad @ Ishak Minggu's (pic) application and maintained the court's decision in not allowing bail when the case was first mentioned.

He set Sept 20 for pre-trial case management and ordered Mamad to be further remanded.

Mamad allegedly gave the false information when applying for a MyKad at the Tungku National Registration Department, here, on March 30, 2012.

The offence under Section 25 (1) (b) of the National Registration Regulations, carries a jail term of up to three years or a fine or both on conviction.

Earlier, counsel Datuk Chau Chin Tang, representing Mamad, said it was a bailable offence as the punishment was not death or life imprisonment.

He said Mamad was not a flight risk as his passport has been impounded, his family members are here and that the question of absconding did not arise.

Deputy public prosecutor (DPP) Mohd Shazmeer Zamhari objected the application as the issued raised had been considered in the previous session.

Unless the defence has new circumstances or facts that have not been pointed out in the previous session, there was no reason for the court to reconsider the order that has been made previously, said Mohd Shazmeer. - Efa Rizan
