Pakistani seeking MyKad denied bail

Lahad Datu: A Pakistani charged with providing false information to apply for a Mykad failed in his second bail application in the Magistrate's Court, Thursday.Sessions Court Judge Mohd Zaini Fishir, who sat as magistrate, rejected Mamad @ Ishak Minggu's (pic) application and maintained the court's decision in not allowing bail when the case was first mentioned. He set Sept 20 for pre-trial case management and ordered Mamad to be further remanded.

Mamad allegedly gave the false information when applying for a MyKad at the Tungku National Registration Department, here, on March 30, 2012.The offence under Section 25 (1) (b) of the National Registration Regulations, carries a jail term of up to three years or a fine or both on conviction.Earlier, counsel Datuk Chau Chin Tang, representing Mamad, said it was a bailable offence as the punishment was not death or life imprisonment.He said Mamad was not a flight risk as his passport has been impounded, his family members are here and that the question of absconding did not arise.
