Tawau: The Immigration Department roped in 19 women and six foreign men in a raid on three massage and reflexology outlets in a three-storey building at Takada, here, Wednesday.Tawau Immigration Chief Noraini Rasi said the women, comprising 12 Filipinas, six Thais and one Indonesian, are believed to be working as masseuses, Guest Relation Officers (GROs) and sex workers.

"The six men, all Filipinos, are believed to be customers," she said, adding that three local men believed to be the premises owners and a pimp fled as soon as they realised the presence of the enforcement team," she said.

The raid, which started at 8.30pm, also found one of the outlets with a luxury hotel-like massage and a special room equipped with close circuit television.

The team also made a shocking discovery of a special room believed used as a "torture room" based on the weapons found inside.

"The place where the women stayed is in bad condition, smelly and not suitable for residence," said Noraini who did not rule out the possibility of trafficking in persons.

Investigations are continuing.

The "Ops Gegar" led by Noraini involved 32 officers and personnel who carried out inspections on 50 people comprising 21 men and 29 women, leading to the arrest of 25 people aged between 19 and 61.

All those detained were sent to the Temporary Detention Centre at Jalan Utara for investigations under Section 6(1)(c) for having no documents and Section 55(B) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for employing paperless foreign workers. - Lagatah Toyos
