Kota Kinabalu: The resignation of DAP Kapayan Assemblyman Dr Edwin Bosi on Wednesday clearly showed that Bumiputera leaders are not comfortable working with the opposition party.Gerakan Akar Umbi Umno Malaysia (Gaum) Chairman Datuk Zulkarnain Mahdar said the main reason Dr Edwin quit the party was due to different opinions with DAP Sabah Chairman Stephen Wong.

"Public already knew things were not right when Edwin made a statement the last day of State Legislative Assembly sitting in April where he "threatened" the party leadership to maintain him (Dr Edwin) as the election candidate for the Kapayan seat.

DAP Sabah referred the case to the DAP Central Disciplinary committee and a decision was made to suspend the latter for three months which took effect on May 29 this year," he said.

Furthermore, Zulkarnain said almost all Bumiputera candidates for DAP CEC re-election 2013 lost terribly in the party election to compete for the highest post in the part except Zairil Khir Johari who secured 1,132 votes and in 12th placing out of 20 seats that were contested.

He said it was learnt that Dr Edwin also lost in the CEC DAP election but was re-appointed to the highest DAP committee for Bumiputera quota.

"I hope the DAP members, especially Bumiputera leaders and members, would look seriously into their memberships in DAP.

"They must see what is the real direction of DAP and they need to realise the agenda and struggle of DAP whether the party really fight for the Bumiputera or not.

"Just look at the closest example of Bumiputera people's fate in Penang under the DAP leadership now," Zulkarnain said. - Hayati Dzulkifli
