Tampering with meters: SESB to drag 3 firms to court

Kota Kinabalu: Three companies will be brought to court after they were caught tampering with the Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) electronic meters at Lok Kawi and Penampang.Two storage companies at Lok Kawi and a karaoke outlet were suspected of tampering with their meters after authorities carried out investigations following their bills' irregularities.A SESB spokesman said surveillance was carried out on these three premises after detecting that there were some abnormalities in their monthly bills.

Due to the information gathered, operation to investigate the premises with the Energy Commission showed that the meters of each premises were tampered with so that the readings will be abnormal.The cases will be further investigated under Section 37 and Section 38 of the Electricity Supply Act 1990 (amended 2016) which is punishable with a fine or jail, or both, if convicted. - Jeremy S.
