Another two years jail for rioting at Plaza 333

Kota Kinabalu: A 23-year-old man currently serving sentence for assaulting a man was handed another 24 months' jail for rioting and threatening to injure another.Grilled chicken wing seller Alih Ismail, who holds a MyPR, admitted before Magistrate Jessica Ombou Kakayun to committing the offences at 11pm on April 14 at a restaurant in Plaza 333, Penampang.He was jailed 12 months for taking part in a riot armed with a machete and received another 12 months' jail for criminally intimidating a man with a machete at the same place and time.ADVERTISEMENT Alih, who was not represented, requested for leniency, saying he was remorseful. Inspector Rasydan Jasni, prosecuting, told the court that Alih is presently serving 12 months' jail for causing hurt to a man. The court ordered Alih to serve the jail terms concurrently but to run consecutively with his present sentence.Alih was also ordered to be referred to the Immigration Department after serving the sentence.ADVERTISEMENT The first offence is framed under Section 148 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to five years or fine, or both, while the second provides for a jail term of up to seven years or fine, or both, on conviction.In another case, a 19-year-old local claimed trial to molesting a woman.
