UPSR pupils in Beaufort not affected by floods

Kota Kinabalu: Flash floods in low-lying areas in Beaufort following heavy downpour on Tuesday has not affected the Ujian Pencapaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR) for some 90 pupils who sat for examination which entered its second day on Tuesday.

The examination centres were at SK Bukau, SK Maraba, SK Weston, SK Lubok and SK Lingkungan.

"All examination centres in the affected area were able to conduct the examination thanks to assistance from government agencies such as Borneo Samudera, police and the Fire and Rescue Department, among others," said State Education Director Datuk Maimunah Suhaibul.

Statistics provided by the State Education Department showed most of the route to the examination centres were hit by the flash floods, with water even reaching the school grounds of SK Bukau where 23 Primary Six pupils sat for the exam.

The other schools, namely SK Maraba had 21 UPSR candidates, while SK Weston had 22 UPSR candidates, six in SK Lubok and 18 in SK Lingkungan. – Sherell Jeffrey
