Shoplifting: Man jailed and fined

Kota Kinabalu: A 34-year-old man was jailed a month and fined RM200 or two months' jail for shoplifting.Unemployed Mohd Akbar Busra pleaded guilty before Magistrate Cindy Mc Juce Balitus to stealing 12 packets of chocolate malt powder weighing 1.1kg, worth RM224.04, at Giant supermarket in Kolombong at 10.30am on Sept 9.The offence under Section 380 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to 10 years and liability of a fine on conviction.

According to the facts of the case, prior to the incident, an in-house detective saw a man, later identified as Mohd Akbar, behaving suspiciously in the premises and saw him taking a box of the chocolate malt and walked out without paying.Mohd Akbar was detained outside the premises and handed to police. He requested for a lenient sentence. In another case, five men were penalised for committing drug-related offences.Fazly Rosli, 30, Stephanus Yohanes, 23, Junaidi Jimlani, 26, and David Moinil, 25, pleaded guilty to having syabu weighing 0.81gm, 0.28gm, 0.04gm and 0.09gm, respectively, between May 8 and July 7 at separate locations in the city and Penampang.

Fazly, Junaidi and David were jailed 11, seven and six months, respectively, while Stephanus was fined RM2,600 or eight months' jail. Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.

Another man, Ajirin Rasin, 38, was fined RM2,000 or six months' jail after he admitted to taking drugs on Aug 3.
