Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Rhinos thrashed Papar Selection 12-0 in their second friendly match in a week held at the Likas synthetic pitch on Tuesday evening. The players who were criticised by some fans following their lacklustre 3-0 win in the first match on Saturday at the Papar Town football field answered their critics to score at will against their hapless opponents.

They took a 4-0 lead in the first half during the heavy downpour before the second stringers came on in the second half to find the net eight more times.

All the players including those who only just joined for training with the senior squad got to see action in the match.

Assistant coach Burhan Ajui, who conducted the recovery session for the players on Wednesday morning, said all the players played well and he also explained that the players failed to shine in the first match was due to poor pitch condition.

"People must understand that these players are professionals and they are well aware of the risks and the consequences of getting injured.

"Therefore, it was understandable that they were unable to give their best on Saturday on an unsatisfactory pitch and the match yesterday clearly showed what they are capable of against the same team."

The match was also their final warm-up before they restart their Premier League campaign against Perlis here at the Likas Stadium on September 19.

Meanwhile, the much travelled Mohd Arfiyansah Abdul Jafar, who last played for KDMM FC in the FAM Cup this year, was the latest to join the training session.

The Tawau lad who can play in defence and midfield is the third player from KDMM FC to be called up with the other two being Melky Balang and Rexjeson Pitrus, but the former has since been absent from the session.

The other players who are still there on Wednesday since they joined more than a month ago are Dexy Mildy Juanis, Devid Ansarui and Teckson Tubeng from the President Cup squad as well as Youth Cup duo of Evan Wensley Wenceslaus and Aidil Safee. - GL Oh
