New pro-BN party formed
Kota Kinabalu: A new political party that supports Barisan Nasional (BN), Parti Ekonomi Rakyat Malaysia (Pekira), will focus on addressing the living cost of the people, said its President Datuk Mohd Ridzuan Abdullah. He said the party has no time to criticise political leaders as it emphasises on elevating the living standard and socio-economic wellbeing of the people, especially its members.

"Pekira is a Pro-BN party with about 15,000 members in the country and has set up its main committee.

To cater for Sabah needs, we have also established Pekira Sabah where we have about 1,000 members so far.

"We believe that after our roadshows in Sandakan and Tawau, our membership in Sabah will grow to 4,000.

"We will be meeting residents in both districts and are optimistic of reaching our target of 5,000 members in Sabah. After Sabah, we will be going to Kuching, Sarawak from Sept 18 until 20," he said.

Ridzuan said this in a press conference after launching Pekira Sabah and a Richmind Group entrepreneur programme held at Wisma Wanita, here, Saturday.

Also present were Pekira Sabah Chairman Mohd Safrie Gomboh Abdullah, Richmind Group Managing Director Dato' Mohd Arif Dr Che Hamat and other officials. To a question, Ridzuan said the party also plans to place two election candidates in the coming 14th General Election in Sabah.

"Pekira is being established to help the members and develop them in the aspect of economic so that they could enjoy better living standard through our various programmes that will boost their entrepreneurial skills and enhance their knowledge such as latest information in getting financial assistance and grants.

"We will also make sure each family has at least one entrepreneur through the Richmind Group entrepreneur programme. By doing so, we hope to address their cost of living as well as to enhance the socio-economic level of each family," he said.

Ridzuan said Pekira will make sure the people of Sabah will not be duped by new political parties such as Parti Warisan Sabah (Warisan) that twisted and manipulated issues for their own political mileage.

"Pekira will be also distributing survey forms that need to be filled by the members to get their feedback or voice out their problems, issues and needs.

"It is imperative for them to do so because the forms will be submitted to the Sabah Barisan Nasional (BN) Chairman and a copy will be handed to the Prime Minister for his perusal and further action," he said. - Hayati Dzulkifli
