Kota Kinabalu: Great news for Sabah students – through IEC, an Education Consultancy for Further Studies, they can win Unesco Centre for Peace Scholarships and be part of the Unesco Centre for Peace programme and qualify for the Unesco Centre for Peace Global Competency Certificate. IEC has partnered with the US universities that have partnered with Unesco to administer and offer Unesco scholarships to Sabah students. US Partner Universities include American University in Washington; Auburn University, Alabama; University of Central Florida (UCF) and University of Kansas.ADVERTISEMENT As IEC Executive Director Jasmine Leong put it, "This is an amazing opportunity for our students to let their voice be heard on the world stage. We hope students and parents will seize this opportunity and apply for the limited scholarships available. "This is all in line with IEC's aim to provide world-class opportunities for our Sabah youths. Having the opportunity to be part of Unesco will catapult them onto the world stage and allow them to be a voice for their generation."She said the Unesco Centre for Peace Scholarship is awarded to academically outstanding students who have also demonstrated strong leadership skills and show exceptional promise as global citizens who will make great contributions to the world.ADVERTISEMENT To qualify for the scholarship, applicants must be in their final year of high school (SPM or A-Level) and are prospective students of a US Unesco Centre for Peace Partner University."Which means, in addition to a bachelor's degree (at any of the US Unesco Centre for Peace Partner Universities), students get to attend the Global Citizenship course (offered only at partner universities) under the scholarship.

This course introduces global citizenship as a lens through which to examine various aspects of life in the complex, globalised world of the 21st century," Leong said.According to her, the partial scholarships will be in the form of US$10,000-US$40,000 towards their tuition fee (at any of the US Unesco Centre for Peace Partner Universities) and students will then be part of the Unesco Centre for Peace programme, where they will consider cultural identity, diversity and the challenges of intercultural communication, and will evaluate ways to create greater inclusiveness. "On top of it, once students complete the course and meet certain requirements, they have the opportunity to join their partner university's Career Accelerator Programme (CAP) on the Unesco Centre for Peace track, and gain access to internship placement within embassies, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and Unesco branches," she added.Upon completion of the programme, students will receive a prestigious Unesco Centre for Peace Global Competency Certificate and may have the opportunity to represent their university at the Unesco world-wide events and the like.To apply for the scholarship, students will need to submit an essay and be shortlisted for an interview with a Unesco Partner representative. Scholarship application forms and essay questions can be collected on Oct 7 (Sat) between 1pm – 5pm during IEC's Education Fair @ their Sunny Garden office.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.
