Lajim risks losing Klias seat over bankruptcy
Kota Kinabalu: A legal notice by Insolvency Department published in a local daily (not Daily Express) on Tuesday has listed State Opposition leader Datuk Seri Lajim Ukin as a "bankrupt".What this eventually would mean is that the Sabah opposition leader would have to vacate his Klias State seat if the situation is not reversed.

The notice attributed to the Department's Sabah Director Monica Linsua, said any payments owed by him should be paid to the department first following a High Court Order that was made on his bankruptcy status on Sept. 14, this year.

In January this year, a bankruptcy notice was issued to Lajim, who is also Parti Harapan Rakyat Sabah President, over a sum of RM160,851.81 owed to CIMB Islamic Bank Berhad.

It was also reported in the notice published in January 15, this year, that Lajim was given a week from the date to pay the amount to the lawyers of the company in line with the High Court Judgment on Oct 26, 2016.

The paper also reported that Lajim who is also Klias Assemblyman said it should be understood that the notice was published (in January) as the lawyers could not issue the claims to him in person which made them decided to put in the papers in the form of substituted service.

Assembly Deputy Speaker Datuk Johnny Mositun said they had not received any formal notice.

"We will wait and see what happens," said Mositun.

The bankruptcy notice over delayed credit card payments is being handled by his lawyers and would be settled, according to Lajim.

He said, when contacted, that he would explain the matter at a press conference today.
