Jobless man faces attempted murder of five policemen

Ipoh: The Sessions Court here Tuesday ordered a jobless man facing six charges, including attempted murder of five policemen, to be committed to a mental hospital for psychiatric observation for one month.Leong Chee Kae, 45, had claimed trial to attempted murder of Insp Ishak Jumain, L/Corporal V. Prabhakaran, L/Corporal A. Puvandra, Insp Nizam Ab Latiff and Corporal Yong Kok Vui, by splashing kerosene and hurling a burning candle at them.He also claimed trial to threatening to set Ishak on fire if the latter arrested him, and causing hurt to Puvandra with a cleaver.ADVERTISEMENT Leong also denied obstructing Ishak from arresting him by escaping to a house, and hurling obscenities at him.He allegedly committed the offences at Taman Tasek Jaya here around 11pm on Sept 15, 2017. The order to send the accused to Hospital Bahagia Ulu Kinta here was applied by Counsel Chiang Mei Wan from the National Legal Aid Foundation, who informed the court that Leong had a medical history of mental illness.ADVERTISEMENT Judge Norashima Khalid set Oct 16 for remention.
