Putra Jaya: The Government will heed the views of Sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar, and take them into account, to improve the Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link project.Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Dahlan, who was granted an audience by Sultan Ibrahim on Tuesday, had briefed Sultan Ibrahim on details of the RTS Link project.

Sultan Ibrahim had expressed his views during the meeting held in Mersing, Johor.

"I humbly heed the views of his majesty and will take them into account in improving the RTS Link project," said Abdul Rahman in a statement.

The RTS rail link was announced by the Malaysian and Singaporean governments in 2010 to provide much needed alternative to the 80,000-100,000 people who commute via the Johor Causeway daily.

The RTS can ferry up to 10,000 passengers an hour in each direction between its terminus stations at Bukit Chagar in Johor Baru and Woodlands in Singapore.

The Johor ruler, in an exclusive interview with a local English language newspaper, reportedly welcomed the RTS project but disagreed with the curved tracks and the height of the elevated bridge which could reach 30 metres in the middle.

According to the report, Sultan Ibrahim said the bridge's height would affect the view of the city along the Straits of Johor while its height is impractical, unsustainable and costly.

Abdul Rahman said the Government was committed to sign the agreement with Singapore by year end.

"The people of Malaysia and Singapore can look forward to better connectivity and accessibility once the proposed RTS is completed in 2024."
