Pakatan manifesto 'not realistic'

Kota Kinabalu: Sabah BN Backbenchers Club chairman Rahim Ismail has described Sabah Pakatan Harapan's promises in its recently announced manifesto as a "far-fetched dream".Pakatan Harapan (PH) has promised to create a second Deputy Prime Minister's post, specifically for Sabah and Sarawak, if it wins in the upcoming 14th general election (GE14).

Sabah PH chairperson Christina Liew said the post would allow for better representation of the two Borneo states at the federal level.

"The issue of having a deputy prime minister from Sabah is not something new," Rahim told FMT.

"The problem is what will happen if PH rules only in Sabah while BN administers the federal government?

Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah Government continued its momentum in managing the economy in line with the commitment and spirit of the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) when it posted record high state revenue of RM6.973 billion last year.

The opposition coalition's manifesto also promises to return 50pc of federal revenue collected from the state and to act on the findings of the 2013 royal commission of inquiry (RCI) on illegal immigrants in Sabah.

Liew also said one of the core issues in the manifesto for Sabah touched on fair oil and gas rights for the state.

"PH obviously still doesn't know the reality of the situation," said Rahim, who is also Pantai Manis Assemblyman.

"BN has been administering the nation and Sabah well for a long time and is trusted by the people, especially those in rural areas.

"We have brought a lot of development to the state, not just for a year or two but for many years."

Rahim said BN's approach to fighting for Sabah's rights is positive and consultative rather than confrontational and these efforts have already borne fruit.

"Regarding the issue of oil royalty, we have been explaining to the opposition during the legislative assembly sessions that we take an approach different from others," said Rahim.

"Our approach is more of a positive and consultative one.

"In fact, some of our aspirations have already been realised, such as getting shares in oil exploration companies and so on.

"We at BN have proven our worth but PH is still daydreaming.

"They are still making promises while we at BN have been fulfilling ours and will deliver much more in the future."
