Geng Botak members busted

Kota Kinabalu: Nine members of a Geng Botak aged 17 to 42 believed involved in a series of robberies in multiple places here since July and another 21-year-old man were arrested for having drugs in a series of operations. District Police Chief M. Chandra said eight raids under OPS Samun carried from Sept 18 until 21 in different places at Kampung Air, Asia City, One Borneo and Manggatal town. Chandra said the nine comprising of four locals and five foreigners where seven of them were found positive for drugs in a urine test and had previous criminal records.ADVERTISEMENT Few items were also seized from the suspects including a Perodua Viva which was believed for the criminal activities, 13 mobile phones, three laptops and two gold rings worth RM35,000. He said the cases that happened were along Jalan Coastal, Marina Court bus stop, car park at Lorong Haji Yaakub, walkway near Imago, at Centre Point, Kampung Air, Taman Kepayan Ridge and the total robbed items were RM10,100 comprising mobile phones, shoes, ID card and ATM cards. For their modus operandi, Chandra said the suspects will usually follow their victims who are walking, grab the victim's belongings and resort to violence in case the victims put up a fight or sometimes the suspects will pretend to ask for cigarette from the victims, after handing a cigarette the suspects will hold the victim and take the belongings.Meanwhile, a raid at Kg Cenderamata, Likas on Sept 24 resulted in the arrest of Filipino having 50.51gm of Syabu worth RM5,000.ADVERTISEMENT Chandra said a team of police from Crime Investigation Department (CID) monitored and carried out surveillance on the suspect who was acting suspiciously. Upon arrest, the drugs were found hidden in a transparent packing in a snack wrapper that was held in the suspect's right hand, he said.
