Labuan: Parti Warisan Sabah is free to discuss its "Labuan ambition" with the Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) leadership, but this does not mean that the latter will just make way for the former in the coming general election.Stating this, Labuan PKR Chief Simsudin Sidek said there are many seats in Sabah and Warisan should focus on those seats and not Labuan.

Sabah has 25 parliamentary seats and 60 state seats, with an additional 13 state seats following the re-delineation exercise, "Warisan, by its own admission, is a Sabah-based party. As such, its priority should be to capture the Sabah seats and not Labuan which is a Federal Territory," said Simsudin.

He said such move may be read as "over-ambition" from a new kid in the political block.

He said this in reference to Warisan President Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal's recent remarks that the party has enough supporters in Labuan to justify its fielding of a candidate here in the coming general election and that he would discuss the matter with PKR.

"Warisan's claim of enough support is doubtful and unproven. It is PKR that has enough supporters and this is proven, considering that in the last election the party's candidate garnered more than 6,000 votes.

We are now close to snatching the seat away from Barisan Nasional and here comes Warisan," said Simsudin.

On Labuan returning to Sabah's jurisdiction if Warisan comes to power in the State, Simsudin said in order to achieve this Warisan has to form the government in Sabah and not necessary that it won in Labuan.

He said if Warisan forms the new government in Sabah, it would be in the position to bring up the federalisation of Labuan issue and take steps to reverse its status.

He said this issue should not be used as an excuse to contest in Labuan and split the opposition votes.

Simsudin further said PKR has been in Labuan for years and spoken out many local issues.

He said party leaders such as Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Ismail and others had often visited the island over the years, while Shafie, when he was Minister of Regional and Rural Development, hardly visited the island.

"It is inappropriate that with the elections around corner, he (Shafie) becomes interested in Labuan." - Sohan Das
