Putra Jaya: The Rural and Regional Development Ministry will extend its full cooperation with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in the latter's investigation over alleged misappropriation of government funds. Its Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said his team will assist and provide all the necessary items needed to ensure smooth-running investigation.

"I was informed that this case involved the previous administration. But I am sure the files are still in my Ministry.

"I will give everything that the MACC needs," Ismail Sabri told New Straits Times.

The Rural and Regional Development Ministry was previously helmed by Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal.

Efforts to obtain comments from him on the situation were unsuccessful at the time of writing.

In the latest development, the MACC has seized another RM29 million in connection with its investigation into the alleged fund embezzlement of the Ministry.

MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Dzulkifli Ahmad said this Thursday when delivering his speech at the 9th International Conference on Financial Crime and Terrorism Financing.

"Yesterday, we have frozen more than RM150 million in the bank account in a recent Sabah case and I was told just now another RM29 million (in the bank account) have been frozen," he said.

On Wednesday, more than RM150 million were seized when investigators swooped in on 15 locations in Sabah during an operation.
