Sandakan: The Royal Malaysian Navy's KD Selangor continued its Ops Pasir Laut in Sandakan waters. KD Selangor Commanding Officer Commander Khairisharizal Salehin said the vessel has been on many overseas assignments for various operations such as Ops Wira and Ops Sinar Sakti.

"This time, officers and crew from KD Selangor from Lumut, Perak conducted Ops Pasir Laut here," he said.

KD Selangor arrived in Sabah on Aug 23 and will conduct duties here until Oct 26 before returning to Lumut for other assignments.

"So far, the Ops Pasir Laut has been very challenging, especially when monitoring for smaller boats entering Sabah waters," he said, adding that most of these boats entered Sabah waters during the night.

He assured that they will continue to be prepared for any possibility.

Also on board KD Selangor was Malaysia Maritime Command Centre Director Kepten Pulendren Paramasivam.

He said the Trilateral Maritime Patrol, initiated by Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein and launched on June 19, has enabled meeting and information-sharing among the three countries involved, namely Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines.

He said air patrols are also in the pipeline following the successful joint sea patrols.

He also said patrols in the nation's waters under Ops Pasir had been conducted previously and will be continued whereby naval vessels will be stationed in the waters from Kudat to Tawau.

"The navy, together with the police and the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency under the coordination of the Eastern Sabah Security Command, will continue to work together to ensure waters from Kudat to Tawau, as well as those under the Eastern Sabah Security Zone, are safe," he said. - Mardinah Jikur
