Kota Kinabalu: A murder trial involving a bar bouncer in the High Court here heard that the teenage boy died of hypovolaemic shock due to chop wounds on the head and the neck.Dr Jessie Hiu, a forensic pathologist with the Queen Elizabeth Hospital here, said hypovolaemic shock in the present case was loss of blood volume from the body as result of severe bleeding caused by the chop wounds."This led to reduce blood supply to vital organs and tissue death," said Dr Hiu testifying before Judge Datuk Nurchaya Hj Arshad as the prosecution's second witness.ADVERTISEMENT The chop wounds were fatal in nature and sufficient in the ordinary course of nature to cause death, said Dr Hiu, adding that the chop wounds was on the left side of the head and on the left side of the neck. They were cause by heavy sharp object - an example of such an object is parang or sword, she added. On trial is Mohd Azmin Lidin, 29, who is accused of murdering one Yaacob Nasran between 3.30am and 4.30am on Dec 15, 2016 outside the Siam Thai Bar, Jalan Asia City.He faces the death penalty if convicted under Section 302 of the Penal Code.ADVERTISEMENT Under examination-in chief by Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP) Gan Peng Kun, Hiu, who conducted a post mortem on Yaacob's body at 2.15pm on Dec 16, 2016, said there were 22 injuries on the body which included two chop wounds. When referred to two pictures of both the sword with red-taped handle and a brown sword and asked on her opinion on which one is consistent with the profile of the object used to cause the chop wounds on the deceased, Dr Hiu said the sword with red-taped handle has solid sharp blade while the brown one had solid blade and the sharp edge has an irregular area which is blunt.

"The sword with red-taped handle was heavier than the brown. Based on these observation, the sword with red-taped handle is more consistent with the chop wounds on the deceased," said Dr Hiu.When asked during cross-examination by counsel Dato' Seri Rakhbir Singh, that could it be possible that the 22 injuries be inflicted by more than one person, Dr Hiu replied that based on the injuries, she could not determine the number of person but there was a possibility of more than one person. When asked whether she agree with the counsel that the sharper the object, the less force is used to inflict the wound, Dr Hiu replied that it applies to soft tissue and that in the present case, the bone was cut – so you need, not only sharp object, the object needs to be solid and heavy force.Meanwhile, Sergeant Fazillah Piasin, who is the crime scene section chief at Forensic Division, Sabah police headquarters, testified that she went to the scene at the Asia City at 6.10am on Dec 15, 2016 together with four police personnel to collect forensic evidence.Fazillah said prior to that, she received a telephone call from ASP Khairul informing her about a murder outside the Siam Thai Bar.
