KK expected to mount a strong challenge at Saga

Kota Kinabalu: Kota Kinabalu football team are expected to give a strong showing in this year's Sabah Games (Saga) which will be held in Sandakan from December 15-22.The team which failed to qualify for the previous games held in Tawau two years ago bounced back in style this time around to top the group in the qualifying round for the South West Coast zone recently.

They managed to win all their matches in the six-team group and scored a total of 13 goals and conceded only three.

They beat Papar 5-1 followed by victories over Tuaran 3-1, Ranau 1-0, Penampang 4-1 and a walkover from Putatan to make the cut with a maximum 15 points while Tuaran who were in second spot with 10 points also qualified.

Team manager Lokman Sunggi when contacted said he was very pleased with the result and the performance of the players.

"I am very satisfied with the results and the players have also produced convincing performances to win all their matches throughout the competition.

"Credit must also be given to the coaches and officials who have all done their job well to ensure the team progress to the Games in Sandakan," he said.

He also expressed his thanks to Sabah Football Association Kota Kinabalu City President Alijus Sipil for his trust on him and other officials in handling the team this year. - GL Oh
