Boy feared drowned after car swept away in K'gau
Keningau: A 17-year-old boy is feared drowned after the car he was driving plunged into a river here early Monday. The Perodua Kenari driven by Mohd Hazim Zihni Jubik was swept away by strong currents in the 1am incident at Sungai Liawan, near Kampung Dangulad, here.

The victim was believed to have driven the vehicle across a bridge that had been submerged by overflowing water due to heavy rain since Sunday night.

The vehicle was found 100 metres from where it first sank, said a district Fire and Rescue spokesman.

They received the information at 9am and three fire engines and 10 firemen were despatched to the location for the search and rescue (SAR) operation.

"As of 4pm, we have not been able to find the victim and the operation is continuing towards Sungai Pengalan using boats," said the spokesman, adding that the strong currents had made the SAR operation more difficult. - Eleanor Ruby
