Lan continues to wreak havoc

Kota Kinabalu: The tail effects of tropical storm Lan continued to be felt in the West Coast and Labuan, Wednesday, with many trees uprooted and branches torn off as well as roofs being blown off and buildings damaged.Some 108 students staying on the third floor of the Kian Kok High School hostel were evacuated following the strong wind and heavy rain.About 100 feet or 30 meters of the zinc roof was blown away causing some part of the building to be roofless.

Parents had to bring their children home and some were moved to the school hall. No injuries were reported.A couple escaped unscathed after a tree landed on their car along Jalan Lintas near City Mall. The driver known as Benny, 34, was travelling from Damai to City Mall with his wife, Yee, 32, when the tree fell on their Ford Ranger at about 1.45pm. The incident occurred near an ongoing road construction site. The workers nearby helped the couple to get out of the car fearing that another nearby tree might fall.

A tree located 200 meters from the first incident collapsed covering more than two lanes of the three lane road causing extra road congestion.In another incident, a man believed to be in his 20s was lucky to escape unhurt as a tree fell and damaged four cars at Putera Jaya, Telipok.

It was believed that the man who was driving his Perodua Viva was waiting at a parking spot when a tree crushed the rear side of his car at about 2pm. Part of an aluminium decoration was damaged and left hanging at the side of the building at a shopping mall.Along Jalan Sulaman, a KFC outlet was also affected after the gush of strong wind blew away its advertisement board.In LABUAN, a few trees fell on roads and housing areas.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.
