YTL founder Yeoh, 87, passes away

PETALING JAYA: Billionaire Yeoh Tiong Lay, founder of YTL Corporation Bhd, passed away peacefully at age 87.The family is expected to make an announcement at 5pm.

Yeoh founded YTL in 1955 as a small construction company. The company has since become Malaysia's largest conglomerate with interest in technology, hotels, utilities, construction and property management.

According to Forbes, Yeoh has a net worth of US$2 billion (RM8.2 billion) making him the seventh richest person in Malaysia.

He leaves behind his wife Chen Kairong and seven children, among them Tan Sri Francis Yeoh, who is now at the helm of the company.

Meanwhile, the family members of Yeoh have expressed their sadness over his death.

"We are deeply saddened by the loss of the head of our family, Tan Sri Yeoh Tiong Lay, but comforted that he has gone home to our Lord Jesus Christ. We are four generations that have had the privilege of enjoying his presence for 88 years and he will be truly missed," his family members said in a statement.
