Papar: Amanah Ikhtiar Malaysia (AIM), the country's largest microcredit organisation, has disbursed RM127.6 million in loans to 40,053 borrowers in the west coast of Sabah this year.AIM Chief Operating Officer for Sabah West Coast, Noraizan Abd Ghaffar, said in Papar alone, AIM boasts of 2,552 members with total fund allocations of RM20.19 million.

"These loans were distributed to members who have shown their commitment, hardworking and determined to increase their income.

"Among their enterprises include trades, services, agriculture, fisheries and many others," she said when speaking at the Kelab Usahawan Berdaya Maju Papar (Kuwap) family day, here, recently.

The agency, which was established in 1987, aimed to assist the Government in the effort to eradicate poverty, especially in the rural areas, by providing microcredit to low-income households.

Other than loans, AIM also provides training to members who wish to improve their skills and entrepreneurship though the AIM Centre of Entrepreneur Development.

Among courses offered by the centre include cooking skills, beauty courses, agriculture and others.

It is hoped that through financial and entrepreneurship courses, members could increase their knowledge in business and financial management.

"Since AIM was established 30 years ago, many of our members have successfully changed their lives.

This can be seen through the increase in the number of assets, their ability to send their children to further their studies and especially through the marked improvement in their images.

"These members who succeeded are the same members who worked hard. They are disciplined, hardworking and resolute in achieving their goals," said Noraizan.

She called upon all leaders at AIM centres and blocks to play their roles and carry out their responsibilities to ensure that the harmony and cooperation among members will continue.

Meanwhile, organising chairperson Agnes Totu said the family day was held with the hope it could unite the members and to strengthen relationship between one another.

"It is my hope that this unity and friendship among all members will give us more opportunities especially through business networking between members and their families.

"At the same time, the event is also hoped to give us the chance to interact more personally with one another instead of just rely on WhatsApp groups to communicate," she said.
