Govt gives RM60,000 for Shell Press Awards

Kota Kinabalu: The State Government continued its support for the Kinabalu Shell Press Awards (KSPA) with a RM60,000 sponsorship for the annual event aimed at driving journalistic excellence in the media fraternity in Sabah and Labuan.Chief Minister Tan Sri Musa Aman presented a mock cheque for the amount to Sabah Journalists Association (SJA) President Muguntan Vanar, who is also KSPA 2017 organising chairman, during a courtesy call by the KSPA organising committee, Monday.The State Government appreciated the contributions of the media in Sabah and Labuan, Musa told the organising committee members, and hoped the continuous financial support to hold the prestigious awards would encourage the media to further enhance the standard of journalism.ADVERTISEMENT The Kinabalu Shell Press Awards is a tripartite collaboration between SJA, Shell and the State Government.Earlier, Muguntan briefed Musa that a total of 293 entries were received this year.KSPA is open to journalists, photographers and producers from the print and electronic media in Sabah and Labuan.During the brief courtesy call, Muguntan also formally invited Musa to be the guest-of-honour for this year's Kinabalu Shell Press Awards that would be held on Nov 17, here.ADVERTISEMENT Meanwhile, Musa also responded positively the efforts of SJA to pursue the development of the association's building on a land given by the government at Jalan Keramat, here.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.

During the meet, he also touched on the government's efforts to promote Sabah's tourism as well as ensuring security to sustain the confidence of tourists and investors.
