Kunak: Villagers in Kg Sri Bahagia and Kg Mostyn Lama are still wondering what the development status is for the Rural Water Supply Project implemented in 2015.Villagers have not benefited from the project which is now likened to a white elephant.

A spokesperson for the villagers, who wish to remain anonymous, said they are aware of the alleged misappropriation of RM1.5 billion in rural development funds meant for Sabah.

"We thus hope the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) will hasten their investigations and prosecute those involved, so that the people will see the government's commitment in stopping irregularities that affect the society," he said.

He said the attitude of irresponsible parties have caused the people to be deprived of enjoying benefits from the rural projects which should have been carried out for the people.

It was learned that the one and a half kilometre water pipe installation project from Jalan Kunak-Tawau was only half completed and did not reach the two villages.

Villagers also claimed that when the project was implemented two years ago, no project signage was set up and it was a reflection that the project was implemented without the proper specifications.

Daily Express has also referred the matter to the Village Security and Development Committee (JKKK) who were also disappointed because the facility which was supposed to benefit the people has yet to materialise.

More disappointing, the contractor who installed the pipe 'refuse' to obtain agreement from the JKKK on the proper route for the water pipe to be installed.

"Whatever the situation, we are still waiting for water supply," he said. - Ibrahim Tabir
