Johor: Another business here has attracted the attention of the public with its "Malays only" sign, two months after the state ruler's dressing-down of a launderette in Muar that had a "Muslims only" notice.China Press reported that the shop, which sells Japanese healthcare and home products, in Larkin Perdana displayed a notice informing patrons that Bahasa Malaysia would be used to conduct all promotion sessions.

The notice, in both Bahasa Malaysia and Chinese, requested that Chinese customers patronise the store's other outlets that catered to the community.

According to The Star, the store's manager told China Press that the company was trying to expand its market base to include more Malays and Indians, and so, it had set up outlets in Ipoh, Kuala Lumpur and Johor where only Bahasa Malaysia was used.

The company had one outlet in Klang, Selangor, that used Chinese as the main medium, the manager said.

She said initially, the company had mostly Chinese customers as its products were not certified halal.

However, some items have since obtained the certification.

The manager said having different premises for different races was merely a marketing strategy.

In September, a Muar launderette's "Muslims only" sign angered Johor's Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar, who ordered it to be shut down.

The ruler slammed the business owner as "sick", while his son, Tunku Idris Sultan Ibrahim, said he was "deeply appalled" over the incident. .
