Ex-convict caught robbing convenience store in Tawau

Tawau: A 37-years-old ex-convict was caught red handed attempting to rob a 24-hour convenience store with a machete at Mile 5 Jalan Kuhara, here, Monday.

District Police Chief ACP Fadil Marsus said police arrested the suspect, a paperless Filipino, after seeing him pointing the machete at a worker in the premises during the midnight incident while carrying out crime prevention patrol.

Fadil said the male worker, 21, was at the counter while his co-worker was at the office when the suspect, who wore a helmet, entered the premise and threatened the worker to hand over the money.

He said police confiscated a helmet, mask, a small bag and a 60cm-long machete as well as a screw driver.

He added the suspect previously had criminal record involving drugs from 2011 to 2016 and the case will be investigated under Section 393 of the Penal Code. – Lagatah Toyos
