Extorting from foreigner: Mechanic is charged

Kota Kinabalu: A 49-year-old mechanic was charged at the Magistrate's Court with extorting jewellery from a foreign maid and molesting her last month.Sawal Muhidin pleaded not guilty before Magistrate Cindy Mc Juce Balitus to extort two gold rings from the 23-year-old woman by threatening to send her to the Immigration Temporary Detention Centre if the woman refuse to give her jewellery.

He allegedly committed the offence along Jalan Kokol in Manggatal on Oct 9.

The charge under Section 384 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to 10 years or fine or with whipping or with any two of such punishments on conviction.

On the second charge, Sawal claimed trial to molesting the woman at 8.30pm on the same day in a forest near Kg Sinanggang, Manggatal.

The offence under Section 354 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to 10 years or with a fine or with whipping or with any two of such punishments on conviction.

The court fixed Dec 11-12 for trial and released Sawal who was not represented on an extended court bail.

In another case, a 26-year-old man was charged with tentatively trafficking 50.40gm of syabu.

Taditadih Hassan is accused of committing the offence at 6.30pm on Oct 31 near the Dang N Face in Bandar Sierra in Manggatal.

However, no plea was taken from Taditadih while waiting for the availability of the chemist's report.

The court set Dec 12 for mention and ordered Taditadih be remanded further as the charge against him has no provision for bail.

The charge under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act carries the death penalty on conviction.
