Kota Kinabalu: Sabah are on course for their second hat-trick in the SGA Cup competition by taking a three-point lead after day two on Wednesday with 13.5 points against Sarawak's 10.5 on the scoreboard. They need at least five points in their singles matches today (Thursday) at the Sabah Golf and Country Club to retain the cup they had won for the previous two years.

Despite the lead, it was a closely fought competition among the two teams, and only in the reverse order of play on day two in the morning that Sabah managed to go three-up in the fourballs session with points coming from Casper Loh/Christopher James who beat Azizul Adenan/Malcom Ting 2 & 1, Fazley Chua/Neil Bainon 3 &1 over Lokman Mustaffa/Aw Yong JJ, Hillary Tan/Safarrudin Abidin who beat Aziel Teo/Hassan Rahmat 4 & 3, one up for Chang Vui Kiong/Zariq Encho over Daniel Yeo/Lee Ka Ching, Brandon Lai/Jordan Mobijohn all square with Lau Ching Leong/Samsusudin Molok while the only win from Sarawak came from Lee Ka Ming/Steven Hii who posted a 4 & 5 victory over Mitchell Steel/Albright Chong.

It was a stalemate in the afternoon session as both teams won three points each with the host's Albright Chong/Brandon Lai winning 2 & 1 against Steven Hii/Lee Ka Ming, Firdaus @ Diddy/Zariq Encho 4 & 3 up over Aziel Teo/Lokman Mustaffa and a 2 & 1 win delivered by Casper Loh/Chang Vui Khiong over Johari Aman/Lee Ka Ching.

The points lost came from Safarrudin Abidin/Hillary Tan who lost 5 & 3 to Aw Yong JJ/Lee Ka Tung, Jordan Mobijohn/Fazley Chua losing 2 & 3 to Malcom Ting/Hassan Rahmat and the 9 & 8 loss by Christopher James/Neil Bainon to Samsudin Molok/Leong Ching Leong.

Earlier on Wednesday morning, the day started with the resumption of the opening day's fourballs play which was abandoned due to bad light on Tuesday with Sabah going 2 up, but the suspension seemed to work to the visitors' favour as they managed to draw level 3-3 to tie the first day score at 6-6 before the start of the reverse play. - GL Oh
