Ata Plus to include agriculture in ECF

Kuala Lumpur: Ata Plus Sdn Bhd, a licensed equity crowdfunding platform in Malaysia, plans to include the agriculture sector in its Equity Crowd Funding (ECF) platform. Ata Plus Associate, Islam Elzayyadi, said the inclusion would help young agropreneurs start and grow their businesses in the agriculture sector. ECF is a programme which allows the public to invest in startups and growing companies, where in most case, the investment is made in exchange for shares in the companies.

"Currently, 30 companies have registered under the six licensed ECF platforms in Malaysia and we aim to get another five more by year-end," he told reporters at the Pocket Talk Session at SME Annual Showcase and Conference 2017 here Wednesday. He said from October 2016 to October 2017, six crowdfunding operators – Funded By Me, CROWDO, The Crowd Plus Asia, Eureeca, Pitch In and Ata Plus – had raised RM26 million which had been disbursed to over 30 start-ups and growing companies nationwide. "The companies are from various sectors, including wholesale and retail, biotechnology, education, real estate, logistics, transportation and healthcare," he said. Islam said the ECF programme allowed business operators to pitch their business ideas to potential investors and get them to invest in their business ventures.
