Duo jailed for having stolen properties

Kota Kinabalu: Two local men were sentenced to two months' jail each for having stolen properties.

Driver Mohd Shameer Marican Ariffin, 24, pleaded guilty before High Court Senior Assistant Registrar Herlina Muse, who sat as a magistrate, to having a stolen home audio system belonging to Chan Furniture, Kepayan branch.

Shameer committed the offence on Oct 17 in a house at Kg Peringatan in Petagas, near here.

Inspector Albert Basiri, prosecuting, told the court that the item was reported stolen on Oct 9.

Meanwhile, jobless Tommy Joibi admitted to having one Jacqueline William's personal documents and tablet at 1.30pm on Aug 29 at Kg Pulutan in Manggatal.

The court heard that Jacqueline lodged a police report that a handbag containing her personal documents and a tablet were stolen from a car parked at Taman Richdar in Manggatal on Aug 27.

Shameer and Tommy, who were not represented, requested for leniency saying they have families to support.

They were each charged under Section 411 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to five years or fine on conviction.

In the same court, 37-year-old Claudius Fred claimed trial to having stolen items.

Claudius, a driver, denied having a stolen television and a stolen microphone belonging to Chan Furniture, Kepayan branch.

He is accused of committing the offence at 10pm on Oct 17 in a house at Kg Ganang in Kepayan.

The court set Dec 11 for case management and released Claudius on a bail of RM5,000 in two sureties. – Jo Ann Mool
