Jailed for robbing woman tourist

Kota Kinabalu: An unemployed was jailed 20 months and fined RM500, or two months more for stealing from a woman tourist.Ahadi Salleh, 20, who appeared before Magistrate Cindy Mc Juce Balitus, changed his plea to guilty to stealing from one Wong Chau Lam's wallet containing RM1,500, HK$1,000 and personal documents at 6am on April 23 in a room at Nook Suite, along Jalan Gaya.He had on July 13 this year pleaded not guilty to committing the offence together with an accomplice.

The charge under Section 380 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to 10 years on conviction.Ahadi requested for leniency while Inspector Albert Basiri, prosecuting, applied for an appropriate sentence. In another case, a 26-year-old man was jailed 11 months for selling a stolen lorry's battery.Cyril Wong Tet Kong admitted to disposing the stolen battery by selling it to a scrap metal premises in Kg Tanaki in Penampang on Nov 5. The court was informed that the battery was reported stolen from the Putatan District Council's store on July 23.

The charge under Section 414 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to seven years or fine or both on conviction.Meanwhile, six people were penalised for having drugs.
