Kota Kinabalu: A 30-year-old local man was jailed 15 years and ordered given a stroke of the cane for raping his cousin who had given birth to a baby boy as the result of the rape.The man who changed his plea, admitted to the charge before Sessions Court Judge Azreena Aziz.During the defence stage, three witnesses testified. The man had raped the 18-year-old girl at the end of October 2014 at 7am at a house in Mambakut.

He committed the offence under Section 376(1) of the Penal Code which provides for a jail term of up to 20 years and whipping, on conviction. The court ordered the man to serve the jail sentence from the date of his arrest on June 2, 2015.The man was also ordered to pay compensation to the victim in the sum of RM10,000 in default six months' jail and to be placed under police supervision for two years after serving sentence.During mitigation, counsel Henry Gudid, asked for a light sentence saying that his client regretted his offence and that he changed his plea.
