French tourist breaks leg at kionsom

Kota Kinabalu: A French tourist who fell 10 feet and suffered a broken leg was carried from the scene and sent to the hospital for further treatment by Fire and Rescue Department personnel.

A Department spokesman said it dispatched a team of seven personnel led by Fire and Rescue Senior Officer Laupen Nuar to Kionsom Waterfall, Inanam after receiving a distressed call at 4.39pm, Monday.

In another case, personnel from its Hazardous Material Handling Team (Hazmat) had to be called to Tuaran Hospital after a mercury spillage was reported.

Four personnel led by Senior Officer Roslie Jun along with Hazmat team from Sembulan rushed to the scene after being alarmed at 2.41pm to carry out cleaning operation.

It was believed that a blood pressure set broke causing the mercury contain to spill.

The team then cleared up the scene by putting the mercury in a disposable bag and handed it to the hospital for proper disposal.

Meanwhile, a fire broke at Taman Nelly almost completely destroying a house on Sunday at about 11.15pm.

A team of six led by Senior Officer Jamikah Ismail arrived the scene that was located 4km and controlled the situation at 11.30pm. No casualties were reported in the fire incident. - Jeremy S Zabala
