Isuzu M'sia adapts to regulations to compete

Pekan: Isuzu Hicom Malaysia (IHM) is adapting to the environmentally-friendly and safety regulations in order to remain competitive in the automotive sector.Its Chief Executive Officer, Taizo Nakahigashi said this aspect is given priority as it plays an important role on purchasing decision.

"We are making changes step-by-step in our regulations. We are expecting the automotive industry would be better next year and Isuzu is aiming to do better next year," he said at the IHM's 10th Year Anniversary Celebration here, Tuesday.

Also present were Isuzu Motors Limited IHM Chairman Susumu Hosoi, DRB-HICOM Bhd Group Managing Director Datuk Seri Syed Faisal Albar and Isuzu Hicom Malaysia Sdn Bhd Vice-Chief Executive Officer Nik Mohd Zaidi Nik Mohd Zain.

Nakahigashi also assured Isuzu's commitment in continuing the success of IHM plant here, which has a maximum capacity of 16,000 units per annum for single shift.

IHM is the only Isuzu plant in the world which has a shared assembly line facility to manufacture mixed models of Isuzu pick-up tracks and light duty trucks, and has 661 workers.

In his speech, Nakahigashi said Isuzu Motors began its operations in Pekan in 1984, before Isuzu Hicom Malaysia (IHM) was established in 2007 with the purpose of fulfilling the growing needs of customers and responding to increased market competition.

"Since the establishment of Isuzu Hicom, we have continued to implement many model changes, improvements, new regulatory compliances and expanding model line-up. As a result, Isuzu became the number one truck sales for three consecutive years," he said.

Meanwhile, Hosoi said Malaysia is one of the important markets for Isuzu Group.

"With our proven, reliable and durable vehicles, the Isuzu brand has been well received by Malaysians.

It is all because of the efforts of everyone at IHM who is dedicated to delivering stable product quality," he said. – Bernama
