The opposition intentionally tried to paint a negative picture about Sabah Air Aviation Sdn Bhd (Sabah Air) by hinting suspicious activities involving the aviation company.Assistant Sabah Finance Minister Datuk Ramlee Marahaban said the opposition's action was purely for political mileage.

His response came after Junz Wong (Warisan-Likas) touched on Sabah Air when the latter debated on the Sabah 2018 Budget at the State Legislative Assembly sitting, here.

"You send your people to Sabah Air pretending to rent a private jet. If you are serious, put down a deposit. Don't go there snooping around with a bad intention," he said.

Ramlee said the opposition had even been spreading the rumour that a senior Sabah official owned a private jet when it actually belonged to Sabah Air after the company acquired Innosky Ltd, a UK company based in Labuan that owned the jet.

"The jet was registered under Innosky Ltd and 100 per cent owned by Sabah Air when it acquired Innosky in December 2015. The major shareholder of Sabah Air is the Sabah Ministry of Finance, while the balance of the shares were owned by Sabah Energy Corporation," he explained.

However, in 2013, Sabah Energy sold their shares to foreign investors at a very good price, much higher than the book value of the company.

"But the (foreign) investors lost 85 per cent of their investment after two years.

"The accounts were being audited by Ernst and Young and showed Sabah Energy made the right decision for the moment," Ramlee said. Junz acknowledged that Ramlee's explanation on the issue was comprehensive.
