Kota Kinabalu: A 25-year-old Filipina was jailed 18 months for having fake endorsement on her passport.Vaneza Contado Parane pleaded guilty before Sessions Court Deputy Registrar Judge Elsie Primus who sat as a Sessions Court Judge.

Vaneza was found having fake endorsement on her document at 4.40am on Nov 4 this year at the Departure Hall in the Kota Kinabalu International Airport, here.

The offence under Section 56(1)(aa) of the Immigration Act carries a jail term of up to five years, or a fine of up to RM10,000, or both, on conviction.

After completing her jail sentence, Vaneza was ordered referred to the Immigration Department.

During mitigation, Vaneza who was not represented, pleaded for leniency and told the court that she paid for the endorsement from an agent in Sandakan.

She regretted her offence and wished to return to her hometown as soon as possible.

However, Prosecuting Officer Joachim Abel Majain from the Immigration Department urged the court to impose a deterrent sentence on the grounds that it was a serious offence which involved the security of the country.

In another court, a 28-year-old Filipina was fined RM4,000 in default four months' jail for entering the State illegally.

Shima Gari, who admitted before Sessions Court Judge Azreena Aziz, was arrested in the city area, recently after failing to produce valid documents.
