Platinum Awards for 3 Sabah firms

Kuala Lumpur: Three companies have done Sabah proud by clinching the prestigious Platinum Business Awards 2017 (PBA) in the respective categories, Thursday. They are Jari Jari Sdn Bhd (SME Phoenix Award), Minyak V.W Enterprise Sdn Bhd (SME Rising Star Award) and Kejuruteraan E Con Mech (SME Service Excellence Award).Jari Jari Co-Founders and Directors, Datin Jeanette Tambakau and Jennifer Chan, Minyak V.W Enterprise Director of Sales & Marketing, Jeff Lu, and Kejuruteraan Director Deledda Tan received their accolades from Chairman of the Selection Board Platinum Business Awards 2017, Tan Sri Dato' Dr Michael Yeoh, National President of SME Association of Malaysia, Datuk Michael Kang and Organising Chairman Dato' Sri Dr Ricky Yaw.ADVERTISEMENT The glittering event with the theme "Sustainability through Technology and Innovation" was organised by the SME Association of Malaysia to recognise and celebrate the outstanding achievements of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Malaysia, at the Sunway Pryamid Convention Hall, here.The SME Phoenix Award is bestowed on non-listed SMEs recovering strongly from a major corporate or financial crisis or setback. Nominees should have experienced either a major financial setback but recovered and/or managed to reinvent themselves during the crisis and continued to excel.The SME Rising Star Award is bestowed on young SMEs which have demonstrated great potential to become successful players in local and international markets. They are companies that are on the verge of a breakthrough and will be successful, when given the necessary financial support, guidance and nurturing. Nominees must be able to present a unique, competitive and potential business concept and/or strategy that are yet to be executed and/or successful. ADVERTISEMENT The SME Service Excellence Award is bestowed on non-listed SMEs that provide outstanding services in the service industry. Nominees must be in business for five years or more, and have reported profit for the last three years.PBA 2017 nominees were judged based on five core evaluation criteria, namely Business & Company; Company Philosophies; Products, Services and Markets; Operations and Technologies; and Financial Performance.

Qualifying Criteria include requirements that the company must be incorporated in Malaysia; at least 51pc of the share of the company is owned by Malaysian(s); the company must not be a public-listed company; the company must not be involved in illegitimate businesses with an annual gross turnover below RM200 million for the financial year ended 2015; and last but not least, the company must be in business for at least three years.Organisers said the Platinum Business Awards is an award programme that was introduced in 2016 to represent the pinnacle of accomplishment. It is the highest degree of exclusive recognition for outstanding businesses/remarkable SME companies.In fact, PBA is a continuation of the legacy of its predecessor, the SME Recognition Awards (SMERA), which was offered until 2015 since 2002.
